Review: Concealer to hide dark circles

Concealer to hide dark circles

In search of concealer to hide dark circles

I’m by no means a beauty blogger or a make up expert but I am a tired mammy with huge dark circles under my eyes. As a result I am constantly on the look out for a good concealer to hide the dark circles.

A while back I went a bit mad buying concealer to hide dark circles, so I thought I would share my thoughts on the ones I have recently road tested. This include budget ones, mid-priced ones and a luxury brand. Here goes ..

Lancome Effacernes Long-Lasting Concealer

Concealer to hide dark circles: Lancome Effacernes Longue Tenue

The low down: So this is the luxury product I tried. Lancôme Effacernes Long-Lasting Concealer is a lightweight cream that claims to hide the signs of fatigue, stress and imperfections. It claims to blend easily and give a natural looking finish. It also claims to covers dark circles, even out skin tone and minimise the appearance of fine lines without over-drying skin. It provides and SPF of 30.

The vedict: Hands down this is the best concealer to hide dark circles that I have ever tried. I don’t say that lightly. It does exactly what it says on the tin! It’s blendable but I only needed one layer and my horrible dark circles vanished.

It’s most definitely long wearing and it doesn’t cake and nor does it sit in to my wrinkles. I know it’s pricey but it is so worth it. Considering I only use one layer at a time I figure it will last me ages.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circles Treatment Concealer

Concealer to hide dark circles: Maybelline Instant Rewind

The low down: This Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circles Treatment Concealer is a big favourite of make-up artists I’m told. It’s a bit of a cult classic. It claims to instantly erase dark circles and fine lines. It even comes with it’s own built in micro-corrector applicator.

The verdict: Of the concealers I tried this came in second. I love it and wear it a lot these days. I’m a bit tight, I don’t want to use up the Lancome one on small trips out like school runs or to Aldi! I must admit that the sponge applicator on the top is totally rubbish but that’s my only complaint really. I just put it on with a concealer brush and it blends really easily. This one feels really creamy and moisturising and again, it doesn’t sit in to my wrinkles. It wears reasonably well all day without any touch ups. It’s a fab mid to cheap option and one I will always have in my make up bag from here on in.

Pur Disappearing Act 4-in-1 Concealer

Concealer to hide dark circles: Pur Dissapearing Act

The Low Down: I got this in one of my Look Fantastic Beauty Boxes so I didn’t go out and buy it myself. The Pur Disappearing Act 4-in-1 Concealer claims to ‘calm irritated skin whilst improving the skin’s moisture levels’. It features salicylic acid and Waltheria extract, which apparently tones the skin while giving it a uniform, healthy looking glow as well as a buildable coverage.

The verdict: Pur can keep this concealer. It was bloody awful on my skin. It’s really thick and hard to blend. It instantly sank in to my wrinkles and caked after a few minutes. It also really drying. A massive thumbs down for this product.

NOTE Cosmetics Mineral Concealer

Concealer to hide dark circles: Note Mineral Concealer

The low down: This is mineral based and claims to help diminish the appearance of skin imperfections, dark spots and fine lines. It also says it creates a healthy glow. Basically it claims to be high concealing and it’s only €14.95.

The verdict: I legged it to the chemist when I read a glowing review of this product on Beaut.ie. Well whoever reviewed it must have been a young one with no dark circles, who gets plenty of sleep and has no wrinkles or kids! I really didn’t like it. First up the coverage is way to light to cover my dark circles and yet again it sat in to my wrinkles. And finally, it wore off after a couple of hours. Don’t waste your money!

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer

Concealer to hide dark circles: Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer

The low down: Like the Maybelline one above, this is a cult classic and best of all it’s a steal at just €5.79. The Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer says it conceals flaws, imperfections and blemishes for up to 16 hours. It is also water-resistant and transfer proof.

The verdict: I love this little gem. Okay, so for the price it’s not going to come anywhere near the Lancome one but it’s my go to concealer to hide dark circles when I am in a major rush. I use it on days when I’m wearing minimal make-up, days when I wear just concealer, blusher and mascara. It’s really light and for me is best worn on it’s own. It really takes the tired look from my eyes and I’ll never be without it again!

  1. The Lancôme one sounds awesome. Will have to give it a lash. Have you tried YSL Touché Eclat? Not technically a concealer but I use it as one and swear by it for the old Casper eyes
